The Hughes & Smith Sidecar Racing team was formed in 1979 to compete in Road-Racing and Sprint/Hill-Climbing events. Early events were contested on a 750 BSA outfit. A more competitive Suzuki outfit replaced it in 1980.

The team established a new Welsh sprint record in 1981, and many placings at club level race meetings. 1983 saw the purchase of a TZ 750 Yamaha outfit and competing successfully in the National Clubmans Championship. The team appeared at the majority of major circuits in this country and at selected european meetings.

Over the next few seasons the team competed at the highest level in this country, being regularly placed, and winning races at various circuits such as:-
  • Donnington Park in Derbyshire
  • Mallory Park near Leicester
  • Brands Hatch in Kent

"The team members have been together for some time, have developed a professional and well presented approach and are well known on the racing circuit."
